Nothing for Granted: the Eucharist

There has been much discussion in recent months about whether or not the eucharist should be withheld from those who do not abide by Church teaching. But, says Canadian priest Peter Timmins, the sacraments are not instruments of control; they are to do with the loving intimacy of God, realised in the incarnation of Jesus.

Because the Sacraments are God's gift to us, Fr Timmins argues, they were never intended to be part of a reward structure or a convenient context within which to inflict punishment.
